Why Does Ear Wax Build Up?

Ears are self-cleaning, and wax helps remove debris like dust, hairs, and dry skin from the ear canal. However, blockages can occur for various reasons:

• Anatomy: Naturally narrow ear canals
• Dusty Environments: Frequent exposure to dust
• Use of Hearing Aids, Ear Protectors, or Earbuds: Long-term wear can impact wax movement
• Previous Ear Infections: Can affect natural wax clearance

As we mature, wax becomes less viscous, and dry skin increases—both contributing to blockages.

How I Can Help

In the past, ear clearance was done by “syringing,” which involved a large metal syringe filled with warm water. The success of the procedure relied on how forcefully or gently the practitioner administered the water.

The method I use is much more advanced and safer:

1. Pre-appointment Preparation – I’ll check your suitability and ask you to use oil-based drops for at least 5 days before your appointment.
2. Gentle & Controlled Cleaning – I use a Propulse 2 Irrigator, which sends a regulated, gentle flow of warm water into your ear, making it much safer than traditional syringing.
3. Hygienic & Safe – The tips and cups used are disposable, ensuring maximum hygiene.

After the procedure, I will check your ear canals and eardrums to ensure they are healthy.
